We are looking for a VDC Layout/Design Lead to support the day-to-day development, maintenance, and coordination of project models while supporting field operations, fabrication, and project teams. This role is focused on technical execution, accurate model production, clash resolution, fabrication detailing, and field technology support under the guidance of the VDC Coordinator and VDC Manager. Duties:

Model Development & Management
  • Develop and maintain accurate 3D models in Revit and fabrication software.
  • Model mechanical/plumbing piping, and equipment systems per project requirements.
  • Follow company BIM standards, naming conventions, and project BIM execution plans.
  • Incorporate design changes, RFIs, and coordination decisions into models.
  • Maintain model accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
BIM Coordination
  • Participate in trade coordination and clash detection efforts.
  • Resolve clashes assigned during coordination meetings.
  • Coordinate routing with other trades and project stakeholders.
  • Update models based on coordination meeting outcomes.
  • Assist with constructability reviews and installation planning.
Fabrication & Detailing
  • Produce fabrication-level models (LOD 350-400).
  • Generate spool assemblies and fabrication packages.
  • Create bills of material (BOMs) for fabrication and procurement.
  • Develop installation drawings, hanger layouts, and weld maps for detailing.
  • Ensure fabrication documents are updated as project conditions change.
Field Support
  • Support field teams with model navigation and installation drawings.
  • Utilize scan data for existing conditions and verification.
  • Support field verification and as-built documentation.
Quality Assurance / Quality Control
  • Verify model accuracy prior to release.
  • Review dimensions, routing, elevations, and fabrication data.
  • Ensure drawings align with project standards and specifications.
  • Identify and communicate model discrepancies early.
  • Technology & Innovation
  • Maintain proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, ACC, and fabrication MEP software.
  • Assist with database maintenance and content management.
  • Support implementation of new BIM workflows and technologies.
  • Contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives.
Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with technical BIM/VDC production in the construction industry.
  • Experience modeling MEP systems, including mechanical, plumbing, piping, and equipment systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360 or similar cloud collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to read and understand engineered drawings and P&IDS, models, specifications, coordination documents and material and equipment product data.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, detailing, shop drawings, spool drawings, and construction workflows.
  • Experience with Fabrication CADmep, Bluebeam, M-Suite, Revizto, AutoCAD, Autodesk ReCap, point layout, and point cloud workflows preferred.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of BIM/VDC modeling, coordination and detailing with a broad in depth knowledge of piping systems and materials.
  • 5 years related mechanical piping and plumbing field experience preferred. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills such as file management and data transfer.
  • Ability to work with project managers, field leadership, foremen, detailers, designers, fabrication teams, and trade partners.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Schedule:
  • Monday – Friday, Full-Time
  • Typical hours: 7:00am - 4:30pm EST
  • Ability to work in office and construction site environments as required.
  • Headquarters: Grand Rapids, MI (Remote position is acceptable)
